Climbing Roots - Wendelstrand

John Arvidsson, Marie Brongiart, Ulrike Donnerhack, Romain Masoni & Emil Westlin

Climbing Roots is our response to a refuge adjacent to Wendelstrand that harmonizes with nature and draws inspiration from the surrounding trees. The treetops form the pavilion's roof - the structure resembling their trunks - the facade resembling their bark, and the walls mirroring the climbing roots of trees. The facade consists of birch bark panels attached to cellulose blocks manufactured in multiple parts by a robotic arm. The blocks are then assembled with tensioned cables, forming a cohesive unit.
